Welcome to Magma 2010!

The Magma Short Film Festival 2010 - in association with Nga Aho Whakaari, will be presenting its next festival April 29- May 02, 2010 in Rotorua, New Zealand.

The venue is the Shambles Theatre, an intimate setting where as well as watching great films, the audience can enjoy drinks and nibbles whilst mingling with film makers and listening to the live music in the lounge area.

The festival is open to all filmmakers from New Zealand and the rest of the world. There is no restriction on age of the filmmaker or on the age of the film. Magma 2010 will be screening 50 short films from New Zealand and abroad.

Check out the programme now on the website.

Magma has the support of some amazing film industry professionals who come each year to share their experiences with the audience and the attending film makers. Come along and get to meet some of them!

Guest Speakers in 2010 are Vincent Ward, Juliette Verber and Simon Marler

Magma Short Film Festival and its workshops are supported by Nga Aho Whakaari, Script to Screen and the New Zealand Film Commission.

Workshop presenters in 2010 are Hone Kouka and Nick Ward.

Magma judges this year are Mike Firth, Tim Worrall and Mike Jonathan. Judges decide winners under the categories of  “Self funded” and “Funded” and “International Favourite”. We have made these distinctions in consideration of the fact that having a high budget film that might be funded by the likes of the NZ Film Commission, will have advantages in quality over other films with low budgets - whose story telling and craft show great potential and deserve recognition. This year due to the large number of international films we have included the International favourite award.

From April 1st, 2010 you can buy tickets and book your place for workshops. Buy tickets online here, or at McLeods Booksellers on 1269 Tutanekai St, Rotorua.
